Louisiana Mental Health Perinatal Partnership

December 05, 2019

Perinatal mental health problems impact 1 in 7 women and can affect any woman during pregnancy and the postpartum period. The Louisiana Mental Health Perinatal Partnership (LAMHPP) provides real-time psychiatric and resource consultations for licensed healthcare clinicians who serve pregnant and postpartum women and their families to help identify and address this health issue. The mission of LAMHPP is to support these healthcare clinicians (including obstetric, family medicine and pediatric providers) to meet the needs of their patients.

The LAMHPP’s interdisciplinary team is composed of psychiatrists, social workers and resource specialists who are available to provide consultation by phone and in a healthcare office. The LAMHPP team supports healthcare clinicians around perinatal anxiety, depression, substance use disorders, and other mental health conditions.  LAMHPP is also ready to respond to consultation questions about psychiatric medications and breastfeeding.  Resource specialists provide information about basic needs and clinical resources around the state.  Toolkits and resource guides are available online at www.lamhpp.org.  Clinical resources include care guides, screening tools, webinars, and clinical handouts, such as the Depression Cheat Sheet and Antidepressant Medication Cheat Sheet.

To participate, healthcare clinicians need to complete an enrollment form. You can start receiving professional psychiatric consultations immediately!  For more information, please contact LAMHPP at 504-988-9171.
